I have to imagine the money's not huge, so this makes me happy.

I wonder if Clarke's award had anything to do with Kaleta signing so soon afterward?

Good that this got wrapped up without any of the potential hard feelings an arbitration hearing can bring.

Awesome. And for more than 1 year, good deal. Im guessing 1-1.5M? I dont see him getting more than that on a short deal. Maybe 2M but thats a little much i think

I could care less how much money he's making...all I know is I'm glad he's here for at least 2 more years. It could be the most boring game - which does happen around these parts - and Kaleta will still bring something to the table.

Is two years "long-term", though, to anyone else but Darcy Regier?

Does he really deserve anything longer?

Better guess would be that Kaleta wasn't down with a contract for much longer than that. If he can add some more scoring touch, he'll be making quite a bit more than what this current contract is for. BUT, if he regresses or stays at the level he's at, he's probably not gonna get very much of a raise. If he signed a 6 year contract for like 6 million, it'd be a mistake on his part, but on our part, do you really wanna give him over $1 million/year?

In my opinion, yes. He plays his role really well and improves his play with every season, so far. What would he have had to do to warrant a longer contract in your opinion?

I would've signed him for up to 4 years, but in the grand scheme of things 2 years is good. Lets be honest, there'd be a fan coup if Darcy let Kaleta go.

He's had injury issues and plays a dangerous game...it's no inconcievable that he might get hurt over the next two years.

Play 60, 70 or even 82 games. He is 24 and has never played more than 55 games in a season. I think 2 years is alright.

Not really a fair comparison is it?

Connolly:

05-06: 63 GP
02-03: 80 GP
01-02: 82 GP
00-01: 82 GP
99-00: 81 GP
